Our group in Columbus is unique as we are a satellite group of Capoeira Brasil headquarted in Los Angeles CA. We train under the curriculum, support, and guidance provided by Mestre Tuzinho. For registration, please contact us!

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Brasil brings years of capoeira experience since his childhood, starting capoeira in Iguatu, Ceará, Brazil in 2002. He has been an advocate of promoting diversity, acceptance, investiment in culture through capoeira. After joining Grupo Capoeira Brasil in 2019, he became a value core member in the development of Capoeira in Columbus, OH. In addition to capoeira, Brasil works as a electrical-controls manager for JBT Corporation and also enjoys percussion instruments and a lot of samba/pagode.

With over 35 years of martial arts experience in Okinawan, Filipino, Thai, Indonisian and American Sport/Combative Martial Arts became an official student of Capoeira in winter of 2018. He has earned bronze, silver and gold medals in various stick fighting and karate competitions such as Arnolds Sports Classic, Battle of Columbus, Buffalo – Niagara Laban Laro, & US Capitol Classics in Washington DC. Taking on the challenge of being a student and leader in helping maintain the development of Capoeira in Columbus OH and growing CBOH across the city.

The instructors and advanced students clearly have a deep understanding of the art, and it’s exciting to be in a space with that level of experience.

One piece of feedback from a beginner perspective would be breaking down flows a bit more like fewer sequences at a time, performed repeatedly and slowly. This would make the class more beginner friendly.

When flows are stacked back to back rather than practiced through multiple rounds of the same sequence, it can be challenging to track structure, even when motivation is high. Repeated practice of single flows would better support muscle memory, control, and confidence for newer students.

Overall, it’s a great environment for growth and learning, and I’m excited to continue training here.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I signed up for a rec-center activity in order to get myself out of the house and with a hope to stay in steady shape. A year and a half later, yes, I’m in great shape, but this is more than a martial art; this is music, dance, communication, positivity, and most of all, community.

Joining capoeira was genuinely one of the best decisions I ever made. The group has a beautiful community of people, not just in columbus, but across the state. I've been training here for about two years, and I've definitely made some lifelong friends.

In terms of the actual training, the instructors do a great job of meeting you wherever you're at physically and giving tailored advice on how to improve. It's a great full-body workout that trains cardio, strength, coordination, and flexibility.

1. Physical fitness. When I first got off my couch two years ago, I couldn't last a single class without taking breaks. Now I'm comfortable going multiple times per week, and have had no injuries.
2. Mental health. The class structure promotes discipline and variety. Lessons require enough focus to leave your tribulations at the door.
3. Community. The instructors are knowledgeable and the students are friendly. The environment is welcoming and fun.

Capoeira has changed my life, and it can change yours too.
